Church Family

Our church family has been so supportive. The missions committee recently approved a donation for our upcoming trip...just in time for the May 1st deadline!! Thank you GHUMC for believing in our call to go on this mission trip. When we get back we will share some of the wonderful things that we know God is going to do in Costa Rica. We are excitedly counting down the days until we leave. Thanks again for your support.

Let's Read

Well it is FINALLY Spring Break for our school!! Needless to say, it has been a very long time since Christmas break for the students and teachers. The good thing is that all testing is finished for the year and we can now concentrate on our core classes. The ACT test will not be given until June again so I will not even have ACT Prep classes until summer. That is another way I have been working to raise our money. For the April test I had one prep class in Jackson and another one in Thomasville. The students worked hard and hopefully they did well this past Saturday.

After teaching math all day and ACT Prep at night (all while scheduling around three boys playing baseball in two different towns) I am enjoying a week at the beach. Alabama has some of the prettiest beaches anywhere and we are so fortunate to be able to set up the camper and go often. We went to the Outlet Center last night and I found some unbelievable books. My children (my boys and all of my school kids) will tell you that I am a firm believer in reading. Even Seniors can learn from "A Bad Case of the Stripes" or "Oh, The Places You'll Go" and so many others. Sometimes I feel like a preacher and a teacher..or that is what the students say.

Well, I found some Scholastic books that are in Spanish AND English. One is "Little Red Riding Hood." I got really excited when I found some Beginner Bible, I Can Read books. There were only four of them but I am going to keep checking back. After all, it is a closeout book outlet so they never know what will they will get. I want to practice reading them aloud in English and Spanish...even if I don't know exactly what I am saying. The kids should like them because they are about Noah, Queen Esther, the disciples, and how Jesus saves. What an excellent way to witness!!

There were also several books in Spanish only. I got about 20 of these so we can leave some with each orphanage. We want to come up with something that we can give to each child. Any ideas are welcome.

Bump in the Road

Just when I was feeling overwhelmed about raising all of the money for TWO of us to go on this mission trip, God once again showed me that he was in control. I was really beginning to doubt myself and question whether or not I was in God's will for this trip. For those of you who know me, it will come as no surprise that I can be a little (or maybe a lot) hard-headed and feeling like I have to be in control of all circumstances. If I decide I want something done I want it done....today!!

Imagine my surprise when I went to the post office that afternoon and found a letter from a friend in Monroeville. My sister had posted on her facebook page about our trip. This friend felt led to make a donation for our trip!! Needless to say it was a very humbling experience for me. First, to know that someone thought enough of us to make a donation. Second, to remind me that I am NOT in control.

Please continue to pray for the team God has put together for this trip and that He will use us to work wonderful work with the orphans in Costa Rica!!
